Sprint Classes

Could someone enlighten me please as to which class a Lotus Elise should be in for sprinting, Class A - production and sports cars or class B specialist production and sports cars ? Not exactly clear from this years Blue book, in the old days there was a clear statement of which class they sat in in the regs.

Historically it was always Specialist Production Cars except when running in the LoT championship. So in with the Kitcars. If this has changed then A2 is Elise/Exige fest.

Yes Geoff that's correct and there was always a specific line in the regs saying Elise type cars in specialist production, but that seems to have now gone and its all down to production numbers. But also i don't understand how you can class a kit car as specialist production because by its very definition a kit car is non production.

Yes historically Elises cannot be raced in class A2, they have to go into specialist production. Some clubs classify them as "composite and non ferrous chassis" cars to exempt them. Not sure why anyone would want to compete in A1 or A2 in an Elise anyway, be like taking a gun to a knife fight in an 800kg car!! Although i'd still have £10 on Salesy or Silky in that class!!

Also I think i read a while back in your thread that your car was mofdified to more powerful spec or something? They have to be a genuine model as left the factory or i suppose factory upgraded from new with paperwork to prove or else they are automatically excluded into the modified class. I think the best thing to do is to email the MSA for clarification direct?

But I suspect you will be up against Darren Tyre in his Elise, good luck with that.......

On the subject of classes, me and Ckaydon were going to do the first sprint at Rockingham but have decided against it due to their production class structure . Out class splits are 1600cc and 2000cc , their local split is 1400cc and 2000cc. That effectively excludes every 1600cc car in existence which seems a bizarre situation in 2016! I am struggling to think of any modern'ish 1.4 cars with enough pep to be entertaining, apart from maybe mini ONE 1400 and maybe MG ZR 1400?

Long gone are the days of plentiful 106 Rallye, Nova SR, and the classic 1300s .
I'd be interested to see what they get turning up for that class, especially as our regs open the door to some pretty decent 1600cc cars cheaply which can potentially win the class.

They also allow 1b tyres in production I think!
