Report:

As the first round of the SECS 2000 Road Rally Championship, a joint venture between the Associations of South Eastern and Central Southern Motor Clubs, and the LCAMC championship a higher entry was anticipated but the format of straightforward navigation allowed the Semi-Expert class a good night out and the two non-finishers were victims of the slippery conditions.

The only two Masters entered, Martin Smith/PRAR (reigning EMAMC champions) and Steve Coles/Bob Blows (reigning ASEMC and ACSMC champions) had a trouble free night to turn in two sets of clean sheets after 160 miles of the twisty lanes around West Kent and its borders with Surrey and Sussex.

The event was hosted by Westerham Garage, Seat dealers in Westerham with their facilities available to the event which proved useful to Novice crew Alan Sayers and Mark Stokoe who had fractured their exhaust on the way to the event.

The first few sections which ran up and down the North Downs caught several crews out and in places the frost became a bit of a problem, especialy for Edmund Wisniewski/ Adrian Weeks who attached the scenery with their Nova before TC4. From here the route used favourite lanes around the Greensand Ridge before heading off East to the petrol halt at Roadchef Maidstone Services. After petrol the route jinked around the Eastern edge of 188 including a short section up the drive of a Sevenoaks members farmhouse to a Control in his yard - right outside his mother-in-law’s bedroom - the entire field failed to wake her!

From there the route headed back West to run South of Tunbridge Wells and over to map 187 for the final few sections before the finish at Roadchef Clacket Lane Services on the M25.

There were no problems in sorting the results and the prizes were presented by just after 7.00am. All together an enjoyable event deserving a better entry than the 15 Nat. B and 5 Clubman competitors who enjoyed the Kentish lanes.
