JUBILEE SUMMER AUTOTEST CHAMPIONSHIP 2004
The championship this year saw the best 6 scores from 7 events counting towards the final score and whilst most of the positions were established by the end of round 6, the final event still had some surprises in store.
As ever the competition was pretty fierce, especially in Class A with 17 competitors scoring points throughout the season, with Chelmsford M C’s JIM BOWIE sharing FTD’s and Class wins with CHRIS JUDGE on a regular basis, interrupted only by an FTD from MICK ROSE and a Class win from Borough 19’s young TOM BURGESS in his first year of autotesting!
JIM eventually took the Class Champion’s laurels with CHRIS earning the overall Autotest Champion’s mantle for a second year.
Class B was even bigger with 18 points scorers and seeming to be a straight fight between Chelmsford M C’s MATT ENDEAN and RALPH TRAVERS, but then along came Maidstone & M K M C’s RUSSELL ECCLESTON and trumped the pair of them, scoring an FTD on the final event. It wasn’t only tough at the top either, with positions fourth to seventh covered by just 5.5 points!
Class D saw another newcomer doing rather well, in the shape of DARREN TYRE and his very tidy Escort. LEE BUSBRIDGE chased him pretty closely and CRAIG McGURK and GRAHAM CHILD managed a Class win each, but DARREN still took the Class honours.
Class D, and yet another newcomer doing rather well – CHARLES ARMSTRONG-WILSON in the Fairthorpe picking up no less than five Class wins on his way to Class Champion, ahead of an ever improving DANIEL WHITTINGTON with JOHN KEMP and IAN CROCKER taking the pots home on the other two occasions.
We intend to have a small gathering at The Bell in Kemsing for all involved at a date to be arranged and I will E mail/write as soon as I know when it is – it would be good to see you all.( Might be a good time to air your views on alterations/improvements we could make – always open to constructive criticisms/suggestions.?)
In the meantime, many congratulations to ALL winners, thanks to everybody for taking part – particularly the ever faithful band of marshals – and let’s do it all again next year?
