Editorial Ramblings
ince I last wrote, the Spotted Dick & Custard stage rally has come and gone. The event was deemed a success from a sporting point of view, but from a marshalling and set up point of view it was VERY poorly supported by members of this club. With only 45 marshals signed on for the day's event (and precious few of these were 7oaks members), it was lucky that it was not huge in terms of entries. If we had had the maximum number of competitors taking part, with those marshal numbers the event would have struggled to be efficient and may have had to be cancelled. Our immense gratitude and thanks go to those who did come out and help on Friday and Saturday for set-up and on the Sunday. Events cannot run without marshals and officials to help set up, clear away and make sure things run smoothly on the day. Helping at events is a VERY important part of our sport, without volunteers of this sort, we have no sport! We have a large number of members who regularly compete on a wide variety of events, is it too much to expect that each of them puts just one or two days aside each year to put something back into their club? It just doesn't seem fair that the same few turn out to all events. It is a heavy burden for these people to bear. Think about it. Although the speed season draws to a close next month, there are PCTs, 12cars, scatters and road rallies being organised through the winter and into the spring. ALL of these events need marshals and organisers. Can you help out on one or two of these? Put something back into you sport this winter.

until Wednesday 15th February 2006 to ensure maximum support from members, friends and fellow Weald Club members. The venue will be Rayleigh Indoor Kart track in Essex (not too far for those of you in Kent) and will take the format of a 2 hour endurance team event with 3 or 4 members per team and a minimum of 8 teams. Cost is £140 per team. A proper entry form will appear in next month's Acorn so you will have plenty of time to ask friends, colleagues and family members if they wish to join your team. New member Bob Bradbury has very kindly offered to be the point of contact for this event. Thank you Bob. So for the moment September's social will be a Noggin & Natter at The Bell with videos (of a motorsport theme!). If you have anything of interest, bring it along. October is earmarked for the Autotest Awards Evening, whilst November's social night has been set aside for an evening of discussion about the 7Oaks Speed League 2005 and 2006 seasons. If you have anything at all to say about the club's championship, suggestions or comments are welcome and this is the place for it. Please support the evening, especially if you are new to the club and want to find out more. The committee also recently had a discussion of some new ideas for extra social nights to provide some fun for the much younger members of the club, to coincide with the school half term holidays. A large scale Scalectrix evening was enthusiastically discussed by the big kids on the committee! It was a bit short notice for October's half term but look out for news during either February or May. As ever if you have any queries or comments to make about anything the club does, then contact a committee member, drop us a line by snail mail or email, or give us a ring.
