We were treated to the hottest day on record at our Marketing Machine
round at North Weald during August with temperatures officially reaching
38.1C. This made a very nice change compared to some of the weather related
problems that we have had there in the recent past. Having said that the
day presented another set of problems; we had to make sure that everyone
took care to avoid problems from sunstroke and dehydration. Thankfully we
had prepared well and all the marshals were well looked after, with Ian
Gibson passing around soft drinks on a regular basis! Andy Webber,
who had taken the opportunity to earn some marshalling points rather than
drive, had even organised a very nice parasol to recline under at the start
line for the duration of the day. See the full report from the event elsewhere
in this issue of Acorn.
By the time that you read this the Spotted Dick and Custard Stages at Longcross
will have taken place. At the time of writing we have an excellent entry
and it looks set to be another successful event at this great venue. More
news on that next month.
Lastly, now that summer is almost over our attention turns once more to rallying.
Please don’t forget that we will be starting our Scatter Rally series in
conjunction with the other Weald clubs during October. Do come out and enjoy
some of these low key mid-week events, they’re great fun and if you’ve never
tried one then don’t let that put you off as help will be at hand from the
organisers.
