Letters to the Editor
DEAR EDITOR
I am an ex member of Sevenoaks but my mother is a life member and therefore gets the magazine which she lets me read and this month's (March) is good but I was not sure about the front cover which has not one but two pictures containing Chin's ugly mushe (forgive spelling). Is this going to attract new members?
Yours

DEAR EDITOR
Re Cancellation of Crystal Palace meeting.
According to our local papers (Croydon Guardian) Bromley Council's
ability to " Victorianise" part of the park is based on
a grant from English Heritage to the tune of £2.5 Million.
One is obliged to wonder:
a) If English Heritage realised or cared about the impact of
the grant on the motor racing heritage aspect of Crystal Palace and
b) If Bromley Council were in negotiation with English Heritage about
this schemes at the time when they made SDMC their promise of
three years further use of the track.
One can draw ones own conclusions about b) but a few letters to
the concerned person at English Heritage may be in time to either avert
the scheme or have it modified in such a way that the track can be preserved
for motor sport use.
One possible line to take may be based on the apparent
policy of English Heritage ( as seen on TV) to take buildings onto
their register for " historic building status IN THE STATE THEY HAPPEN
TO BE IN AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION without regard for their original
designs or subsequent out-of-character additions. Seems to be some
inconsistency with that policy and the situation at Crystal Palace.
Also English Heritages desire to see the particular part
of the park " victorianised" is difficult to comprehend when
its going to be overlooked not by an elegant Victorian style
structure but a monstrous and hideous entertainment complex.
The concerned person at English Heritage is:
Mr Malcolm Woods
Historic Buildings Inspector
Room 102A
English Heritage
23 Saville Row
London
W1S 2ET.
Letters could be copied to the Planning Dept. of Croydon Council,
Tabener House, Mint Walk, Croydon, as Croydon seems to have some interest
or influence about what goes on at the Park.
