Editorial Ramblings
Welcome to a skinny issue of Acorn, late as usual. Oh dear bad habits are hard to get rid of. As I write this, the entries for our North Weald on 10th April are trickling in—one of the reasons Acorn got forgotten about this month, as I am immersing myself into the Entry Secretary’s job (note to self….must book a time management seminar...if I get time!)
This is the first time I have produced an 8 page Acorn, slightly worried about lack of copy from interested parties, but then we are at a crossover point in the seasons, beginning of speed and summer off-road events, end of road rally, 12 car and scatter stuff. I hope to have a lot to put into April’s issue.
If you have anything of interest to members, just drop me a line.
I have included this month a copy of a letter and certificate sent to the club via Roy Dawson, to thank all the club members on their generosity in supporting the Royal Marsden with their donations, in memory of Mark Dawson. I also want to mention that a further donation has been made to the charity from our first and second place winners of the 2004 Speed League, Roy Nicholls and Paul Mayhew, Roy and Paul were unable to attend our Awards Night to collect their prizes in person. As the Speed League regulations state, the prize money is donated to charity if the award winners are unable to be at the awards presentation and Roy and Paul were more than happy to donate their cheques to this worthy cause.
Entries for our PCT are coming into Clive Cooke and hopefully the club’s first PCT for many years will be a success. Team Travers is unable to come along as we have other family commitments on the day but we will be with you all in spirit and hope for a successful day.
Just thought I would mention that if you have not renewed your club membership yet this year, this will be your last Acorn. If you still wish to rejoin, please send your completed renewal form and cheque to Andy Elcomb as soon as you can. You don’t want to be caught out at your first event without a valid club membership card now, do you?
Our club’s AGM is next month and you will find more details and an agenda on page 5. Please come along and support your club. My musings and ramblings last month may have stirred you into finding out more about anything at club level and above, so this is a god time to ask. If you have something you would like discussed, then let a committee member know before the meeting, so it can be given some thought and time on the agenda.
Finally our recent 12 car on 4th March, took place even though the road conditions were less than ideal (snow, ice etc) and 5 brave souls took to the roads for a fun evening. Only one crew failed to make the finish under their own steam, due to a mechanical failure and not the weather conditions, and Chin adjusted the timings slightly to take into account the slippery conditions. I haven’t yet had results for the event , but they’ll appear next month.
That’s all folks, for now!
