At the time of writing we are midway between having run the Kent Rally
and about to jointly run the Rally of Kent with Bexley and Maidstone motor
clubs. The Kent Rally ably organised as always by Chin and his devoted
team ran with only a few minor problems. Although there were a couple of
competitors who got a little over-enthusiastic during the night! Best of
all nobody ran over any of the cats on the route that we had been asked
to avoid by concerned householders. Unfortunately, I didn’t fare quite
so well scoring one fox when travelling between controls during the night
and sustaining some significant damage to the front of the car.
Next up on the calendar on Sunday 16th March is the co-promoted Rally
of Kent and as always your help is needed to ensure that we are able to
run the event successfully. Volunteers to marshal should contact Iain
Gibson, details elsewhere in this and previous Acorns.
At our last committee meeting it was decided that we would celebrate
our Golden Jubilee next year by holding a Summer Ball at Leeds Castle on
Saturday 22nd May 2004. So make sure you can attend by getting it written
into your diaries now as we intend making it a great night to remember.
As a consequence we have decided to hold next year’s Annual Awards night
at a different venue during January or February. Further details will be
provided as they become known.
Lastly, the February club night saw its biggest attendance in years
with over 55 people turning up for the Rally Marshall’s Training evening.
An excellent and entertaining training video was shown with an opportunity
for questions and answers at the end. My only concern was the Health and
Safety risk of having so many people crammed into the back room of The
Bell!
