Well the KENT RALLY has been and gone, and a big THANK YOU to the FEW
of you that came out and marshalled. Where were the rest of you?
With over 250 members it seems sad that we cannot get 50 out to marshal
one of our own events and have to rely on other clubs to do the work.
A few of us went down to Bournemouth on the 23rd Feb to help Croydon
Motor Club on the RALLYE SUNSEEKER. We met up at the Little Chef outside
Bournemouth for breakfast at 08:00. Then split up to run two passage checks
at stage finishes, collecting time cards and ringing the times through
to the results office. After this we met up at our third point and while
some drove to the rally office with the time cards the rest of us had lunch.
Then at 2:20 the control opened and we started collecting time cards again
while the spare people had time to walk into the stage to see the cars
in action. When this control finished we again split up so one crew could
go and set up the final control while the rest drove into Bournemouth to
rally office with the times, before joining the crew at the passage check.
When this finished that was our work for the day done so while most headed
for home we took the final batch of paperwork to the rally office before
heading home ourselves. This may seem a boring day but we were kept busy
all the time and got to see the cars up close and talk to the competitors,
as well as helping out a local club.
Our next event is the sprint at LYDDEN on Sunday 14th April here we
will need marshals so volunteer NOW. Then the sprint at NORTH WEALD on
16th May will also need marshals as well as someone to act as CHIEF MARSHAL.
I will not be able to do it but will still be there to help out on the
day.
Later on in the year we have 2 stage rallies to organise at which we
will need every member of the club to be involved in. These are THE RALLY
OF KENT where Sevenoaks are one of the main organisers. We will have one
set of stages to run and will need people to help with setting up the day
before and marshals on the day. The other rally is our own SPOTTED DICK
AND CUSTARD RALLY at LONGCROSS where marshals again will be needed. The
dates of both these events will be in the calendar printed in the back
of Acorn so put them in your diary now so you are able to help.
