In the Hot Seat

Congratulations to Chin and his organising team for putting together yet another very successful Kent Rally. The event was enjoyed by a very healthy field of thirty-two cars that pounded around the lanes of Kent and Sussex in a close fought battle for overall honours. The event was also enjoyed by a good number of Novice and Clubman entries, which bodes well for the success of future events. Many thanks to those of you who gave up sleep to come out and marshal on the event, without your support it just simply wouldn’t have happened!
By the time that you read this, the first Grand Prix of the season will have been run in Australia. We will know whether we are in for an interesting three-way struggle for the World Championship between Ferrari, McLaren and Williams or a run-away season by Ferrari and Michael Schumacher. Personally I hope that it is the former, as I would love to see a McLaren or Williams putting in a really strong bid for the Championship this year. For sheer speed and natural ability my money is going on that nice Columbian racer Montoya to win the Championship.
With the exception of the rallying fraternity, this time of year is traditionally rather quiet for everyone else. Consequently the sprinters and racers amongst you ought to be out there braving the cold of your garages and preparing your cars for the coming season. It’s never particularly pleasant working on cars at this time of year, but its amazing how quickly the start of the new season rushes around, so don’t forget to get all that preparation done in good time!
Lastly, if things go to plan there should be a copy of the 2002 Yearbook, listing details of the club’s Championships and Trophies, enclosed with this edition of Acorn. For those of you that haven’t taken part in any club events recently, come along and make the effort to support, either by competing or marshalling, at some of the varied events that the club is putting on this year. After all, they are there for your benefit!
