still avidly read the exploits of my Sevenoaks friends, and thought it was time to remind all those Marketing Machine Speed League friends that I am still playing in the Golf, albeit focusing on Midlands or Northern venues. The only time paths were to cross in 2000 was to have been the abandoned Loton Park Hillclimb in September (probably now my favourite venue, along with Harewood).

It was good to see that 2000 was equally close, how many times is that man in the Black Lotus, going to be the bridesmaid? Having stolen points from him at final Lydden in 1995, that meant he lost the championship, I have always felt a little guilty ever since!  Andy, you will be amused to know that I seem to "fall-off" more times every year now, either it is my age or I'm trying too hard these days.

I have just received my February copy of Acorn and was extremely sorry to hear of Bromley's U-Turn on Crystal Palace.  It's such a shame given all the hard work of the organising team.

Was very interested in Big Jim's recollection of his trip to France.  I too have always wanted to go to Europe and have a try at something new. Have considered track days at Nurburgring and Spa, but not convinced about lack of competitive element. Now if the "Tourist Trophy" were to include a French Hillclimb for later this year or next, then I will be in the queue.

In the meantime I will be focusing on Midland Speed and Nottingham Sports Car Championships, with a few CCC & Marketing Machine thrown in, as this

gives a few visits to Loton, Harewood, Olivers Mount, (new to me) MIRA and Curborough plus a visit to Hethel.  Went there last year and tried an Exige, stunning handling, pity that at 6 foot plus crash helmet = very uncomfortable! Great little circuit, hope to see some Acorn readers there.

Dear Editor,

May I through the "Acorn" magazine appeal to members of SDMC for help.

Do any members know of the whereabouts of the SDMC Original Leather Official's Armbands listed below--I have recently been granted custodian of the historic SDMC artefacts but I am still missing five of them as follows:

"Secretary of the Meeting"

"Chief Paddock Marshal"

"Judge" x 1 (One already found - Thanks, Bill….)

"Steward" x 2 (Both missing…)

Can anyone help shed light on these missing items--if so please send them to me as I plan to eventually make up a display of them.

Thanking you in anticipation, I remain.

Yours sincerely

Ronald Cottrell
