The Single Payment Scheme (SPS) replaces the Common Agricultural Policy and now pays farmers for the land they own, not what they produce. The European Directive on agricultural subsidies does not prohibit motor sports on land eligible for SPS. However, the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has taken the decision, without consultation, to stop these payments to UK landowners if agricultural land is used, even temporarily, for motor sport.
Please could I ask you to sign the petition to help save our sport, and pass on the link to anyone you know who is interested.
DEFRA are having serious effects on all types of Motorsport, DON'T LET IT HAPPEN!
The Editor adds: However since making its decision, DEFRA have now decided to defer these changes, hopefully due to pressure from motorsport enthusiasts. Therefore, for this year only, they have rescinded their decision and will be rewording the conditions of the Single Payment Scheme for 2006. The 14-28 days planning rules still exist. We all must therefore be vigilant as the year gets older.
