Trophy Twaddle

The Monthly Mug nominations came in thick and fast for members’ motorsport activities in May.  Neil Armstrong took to the Lydden Circuit in his first Toyo Tyre Road Saloon race and came away with 9th overall.  The club’s chairman Colin Rodger did rather well at Castle Combe with a win, despite taking the nose and a front corner off in practice (a nomination also for the Batturd Cup then!)  Colin also bagged a 3rd place at Snetterton, just 0.6 seconds behind the winner and also picked up the Sports 2000 lap record.  And of course as mentioned elsewhere in this issue, Daren Hall and Andy Elcomb managed a 14th overall on the Red Dragon Stages helped along by an equal 4th fastest on the last stage.  However, the committee decided that May’s mug is to be awarded to Chris Wise for doing extremely well in his first stage rally by claiming a 4th in class. I will mention that it was also Chris’s co-driver Vaughan Herrington’s first outing on a stage rally and we congratulate Vaughan.  Unfortunately as he is not a 7Oaks member, a mug won’t be wending its way to him this time.
The Bent and Battruds continue to be fiercely contested. Martyn Ellis lost a brake pad at Lydden, giving no brakes and a heavy impact at Devil’s Elbow; and not to be outdone Andy Webber went so far off and down a bank at Loton Park that the recovery truck had to throw him the line.
I am sure there will be more next month.  If we have missed anything, don’t forget to let me know about it.
