Web Update

The club website has been at its new home for just over a year now.  The site is regularly updated with news and event results.  If you don’t yet visit us then point your browser at www.sevenoaksmotorclub.com and see what you are missing.  Also, if you have your own motorsport or car-related website then send me the URL and I will add it to the links page.
Competitors in the Marketing Machine should note that the site is updated after every round as soon as the event results are available.  A report for the event is added and the Championship scores are updated.
Fast Talk is the club’s discussion forum.  This is an electronic bulletin board that allows you to discuss anything you wish with other club members – be it the last club event, the state of F1, Mark Dawson dressing up in women’s clothes or just a message to bait the Acorn editor...  So far over 30 people have registered and contribute regularly to the current topics.  Fast Talk is also used to notify people via email of certain changes to the website.  To do this you simply tell the system that you want to ‘track’ a topic.  Then, if a message is added to a topic you receive an email to let you know.  This is currently used to let people know that the Marketing Machine scores have been updated, and also to say when the web version of the Acorn is available.
The web version of the Acorn is becoming increasingly popular.  Ralph Travers prepares this and uploads it to the site.  The content is exactly the same as the paper version but the layout is slightly different and it is presented in full colour.  The web version of the Acorn is always available before the paper version.  Access to the current version is controlled by a simple user id/password so that only 7oaks members can read it, but there is an archive of older Acorns that anybody can access.
We also have extensive galleries of photos from Sevenoaks organized events.  Most of these photos are taken by Colin Shipway and are of a very high standard.
Anybody who is interested in how the website is used and what sort of traffic it gets can view some very detailed reports at www.sevenoaksmotorclub.com/usage - note that this URL is not linked anywhere within the website, you will have to enter it into your browser yourself.
If anybody has any suggestions or feedback then please send them to me.
