Rally Rattlings
There’s still no road events to talk about but the Multi-Use (single
venue) Rallies are still with us. The situation may change soon as the
Motor Sports Council are reviewing the situation on June 7th (you may know
the outcome by the time you read this if they announce it on their website
www.msauk.org). I’ve done my best to
persuade them both at Rallies Committee and Regional Committee, and a bit
of direct lobbying – we may get there.
Also at MSA level we’re trying to stop, via the two above committees,
the introduction of ‘life-ing’ of helmets and seat belts. The Safety Committee
had proposed that helmets be given a life of maximum ten years, in practice
this means between five and ten years, and seat belts a life of five years.
Both these proposals were rejected as being of no value to safety and very
costly to competitors and it was left for Scrutineers to continue inspecting
both items, as with any other safety aspect, at events. Fortunately we
had, at Rallies Committee, the presence of Tony Fall to back us up.
It looks as if the Bullnose in early September will be the next Nat
B road event and I can’t wait. I think that our Rally Championship will
have to be reviewed completely as it’s likely to be a runaway victory for
Colin Billings – not that I mind as he well deserves it and there is a
strong argument not to leave gaps in our trophies.
There’s light at the end of the tunnel!
