Editorial Ramblings
So I got back from France unscathed and not one person (adult or child) was sick, despite very heavy sea crossings there and back. The weather for the week was not very kind and there was not much opportunity for sitting about on the beach as there has been in previous years. The wind was so strong all week that we were all in danger of having several layers of dermis removed by sand blasting!
Anyway thanks to my noble hubby for standing in to write my column.
We welcomed a new committee member at last month’s meeting. Philip Fawcett has kindly stepped into the Chief Marshal’s position and his details can now be found in the committee details page this month. Philip is an “and district” member, coming from Horsham. He is also very welcome because he brings the average age of the committee down by a fair chunk of years!
So if you are wishing to volunteer your services for our next speed event, the sprint at North Weald on August 20th, Philip is the man to get in touch with.
Once this mag has been put to bed (and it is running late due to me having not had much of a quiet life since the last Acorn) I will be preparing the paperwork for the sprint as I have (in a weak moment) volunteered to be the Event Secretary. Never having done this role before I am apprehensive about forgetting something vital, but I am sure that there will be someone giving me a gentle reminder here and there. Viv Elcomb will be taking on the role of Entries Secretary for this one. I do hope that lots of you will be out supporting us with either entries for the event or offers of help on the day. This would be an excellent opportunity to catch up on those marshalling qualifications for the Speed League and also to get the 7 bonus points awarded for helping out at the club’s events, as well as Chalky White points for the annual awards. With the Spotted Dick & Custard Stages being cancelled for this year, the North Weald sprint could be your only opportunity to get those all important points,
There you are, lots of reasons for coming to North Weald. I will even try to order a warm sunny day, how about that!
Now a beef from “Hacked Off” from Redhill…..what is going on with the WRC coverage of late? Actually that has been the problem, it’s too late! Keep forgetting to watch/record the highlights as ITV keep changing the times and it seems to have lost its Sunday afternoon slot. I so enjoy watching those highlights, far more than the F1 processional ones.
Okay rant over, ITV...just sort it out
Anyway, enough rambling for this month.
TTFN!
