…that Peter Neal's reference in Acorn to Loton Park being "like a 1990's
RAC Rally spectator stage" was 10 years too late. Keith Lay/Roy McNeil
are pictured here on a 1980's RAC at Loton Park (at "Webber's Bend"?) and
later where the stage continued past the hillclimb finish and out on to
moorland tracks).

...that Darren Russell’s 'Goodwood' model Visa was feeling rather Gallic
when, taken back to its mother country and feeling right at home – it broke.
...that even with all the efforts of four club members the Team 7Oaks
beer mountain failed to even come close to the pre qualifying standard
at Le Mans.
...that a 7Oaks trip may be on the cards for next year’s Le Mans.
...the Press and PR fellah was seen driving yet more borrowed cars,
including a Morgan, an Audi Quattro (good for 155mph - proven) and best
of all a Citroen Van.
...that some Mini's are 'proper' competition cars whatever is
said on the web
...and woe betide anyone who questions that!
…that Mark Dawson’s spidey powers deserted him in the service area
on the Dukeries Rally, when Daren’s car managed to fall off its stands
and trap him underneath it! Fortunately, like all good spiders, once the
upturned mug (sorry, rally car) was lifted, he scurried out with nothing
worse than a very sore foot.
…or was it all just a ploy to get a nice St John’s lady to give his
foot a good fondling?
Answers on a postcard to the usual address……
…that the meeting Secretary at North Weald was heard to ask male passers by that if it got windy would they mind grabbing a leg….. did she mean her leg or the gazebo’s?
…that the Clerk of the Course, the ever tactful Sloggiman, announced
over the radios after a motorcyclist was seen heading up the course, that
"It was lucky that biker came on the track when it was only someone slow
like Ralph going round, not anyone quick". The Secretary later corrected
the gaff by announcing that the Clerk actually meant Ralph was an experienced
competitor….(old maybe?)
...that at North Weald the Comp Sec tried to emulate his rallying hero
Gilles Panizzi.
...that upon seeing this Darren Russell had to rush to the loo.
...that North Weald is rainiest place in the UK - officially.
...that the drive to get newcomers into motorsport was working well
at North Weald. So well that a large number of people were so desperate
to join in that they decide just to drive onto the stage.
... that co-drivers will be allowed at the August event to avoid some
competitors getting lost.
