Whilst doing a bit of sneaky testing at Brands Hatch in my new Civic
Type R, the circuit was shut for a couple of hours to rebuild the tyre
wall at Clearways, not caused by me this time I hasten to add. Iain
Gibson and myself were therefore kicking our heels a bit, we had given
the Civic a full service as required by Japanese engineering i.e. we cleaned
the windscreen and put some more juice into it. This left only one option
but to head for the bar.
As we headed into the bar/restaurant, we bumped into Andy Elcomb loitering
outside the mens’ toilets. Clearly embarrassed by this he avoided all questions
by asking 'Want a go in rally car lads?'' He then gave us a pair of helmets
and said 'Follow me'! We didn’t know whether to get excited or even
more concerned.
Anyway, with true Elcomb hospitality he gave us each 3 laps around
the rally course at Brands in a 206 Cup car at full chat. Top bloke! Naturally,
I gave Andy a few useful pointers and he soon began to get used to hand-brake
turns. He definitely showed promise.
Cheers again Andy!
