Bromley Pageant 2002 - Q & A TO Colin Shipway

Colin, how did the Bromley Pageant go this year? AE

Not bad in the end. We used my Astra along with Colin Roger’s Sports 2000 and Mark Dawson’s “Shove-it” chevette which gave a balance of vehicles on our stand. We gave out about 35 Flyer/membership forms and if everyone who said they were going to turn up at the next Autotest does, it could get a bit crowded! Somehow though I don't think this is likely. (Oh so cynical! - Ed)

Pardon my ignorance but what goes on at these pageants? Are they sort of mini car shows in fields etc with parades of vehicles, all sorts of ages etc?  DR

That's about right. Not our usual sort of thing, but as you get loads of the great unwashed (i.e. those that know nothing about motorsport, local or otherwise) it’s a good means of advertising ourselves.

How many cars were at Bromley and what ages did they range from? DR

Bromley is the biggest one-day car show in the world. There were approx 125 club stands plus all the trade stands etc and somewhere between 3-4,000 vehicles on show of all ages.
As well as the cars there is also large auto jumble with all sorts of bits and pieces on sale as well as lots of stands selling cheap tools.

And Finally……

Many thanks to Colin Shipway, Mark Dawson and Roy Dawson for helping to man the stand at Bromley Pageant so successfully. With Mark's Chevette, Colin's Astra and my Lola on the stand, we had a lot of interest during the course of the day. Hopefully we will get a reasonable number of new members signing up over the next few days, but we'll just have to wait and see!
