MSA TO ALLOW ROAD RALLIES FROM 14th JULY

Road rallies and classic trials will be allowed to resume in areas free of Foot & Mouth disease from Saturday 14 July. The date has been chosen to allow time for public relations visits and to allow the MSA to process the statutory route authorisation paperwork.
The relaxation, agreed by the Motor Sports Council, means that every form of motor sport in the UK may now be permitted from 14 July, although events taking place within infected areas will remain subject to severe restrictions. Full details of the MSA's Foot & Mouth regulations are being sent to every registered motor club and can also be found on the governing body's website at www.msauk.org.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS IN THE KENT AREA

The HUGHES RALLY, which was postponed from its May date to Sunday 26th August, should now be able to go ahead, so expect to see regulations appearing in the next few weeks.  The event will again be based in Ashford and use maps 188 and 189.  Contact Andy Gibson for more information.
Blackpalfrey MC also now hopes to resume organising its popular Sunday morning 12-car regularity rallies to which HRCR members are invited.  These are ideal practice for novice navigators and excellent value for money.  A possible date for the first event is Sunday 29th July, to run in East Kent on map 179.  Contact Andy Gibson for more information.

MSA Press Release:
DUNLOP RALLY TYRES WAIVER EXTENDED (22/06/2001)

Competitors on UK special stage rallies will be permitted to continue using Dunlop factory-cut 'slick' tyres until 1 October 2001, an extension of three months on the current waiver, because industrial action has delayed the introduction by Dunlop Tyres Ltd of acceptable moulded tyres.
Competitors are reminded that they may not make any alteration to the Dunlop factory-cut tread patterns.
All other makes of slick and cut slick racing tyres have been banned since 31 December 2000.
MSA Chief Executive Colin Hilton explained: "The dispute at Dunlop has nothing whatever to do with motor sport, so it would be wrong for competitors to suffer in the short term because of it. However, MSA is determined that UK special stage rallying will use only moulded tyres from the earliest possible date. The Dunlop situation will be kept under careful review and we must hope that their industrial dispute can be resolved as quickly as possible."
