Speed League 2005 Roundup
From the reports I have received over the past year, the 2005 Speed League was enjoyed by everyone who took part. 67 competitors participated in events ranging from ½ day sprints to weekends away for two day events.
We had several newcomers this year which was lovely to see, some of whom came out for just a single event. I hope these people will be encouraged to do more with the events we have planned for next season.
I am sure you will have read in the Acorns over the last year of the various event happenings and the challenges people had to meet. As Speed Coordinator I would like to say thank you to all those who have supported the championship in 2005, especially our sponsors Ric Lee (Storguard) and Jon Miles (Verdant).
I have listed below this season’s winners and I apologise for not been publishing them sooner. Well done to you all and I hope you have all got the date for the Awards dinner in your diaries to come and collect your pots.
Overall Winner Lord Chris Fulke Greville
2nd Andy Webber also winning the Kentish Times Trophy
3rd Roy Nicholls also winning the Tourist and Hill Trophies and the Muller Cup
4th Ian Crocker also winning the Local Trophy
5th Darren Russell
6th Keith Crocker
7th Stephen Dann
8th Martyn Ellis
9th John Milligan
10th Dave Balderson.
The Single Seater trophy will not be awarded this year, as we had no qualifiers.
Ian Crocker has decided to step down as our championship scorer at the end of the 2005 season and I feel it appropriate to say thank you to him for looking after the scores for the last few years. Good luck with your attempt on the championship next year, Ian. David Balderson has very kindly volunteered to take over this role from Ian, so he is the person to send all your results to from now on.
Moving on and you will find elsewhere in this month’s Acorn the provisional regs for 2006. There have been some minor changes to these, which I have listed below:
Ø The Marshalling 7 Bonus points will now be given to those who Marshall at any 7oaks run Nat ‘B’ event (These being speed events, Spotted Dick Rally, Kent Rally and the Rally of Kent)
Ø Number of events will now be best 10 out of 18 rounds unless the rounds drop to below 15 and then it will be best 9 from 15, best 8 from 14 etc
Ø Marshalling Claim forms will still need to be sent to the Championship coordinator but an email endorsed by one of the event officials will also be accepted.
Ø Lastly all registrations will need to be sent to the Championship Coordinator, not the Scorer
Our Acorn Editor is always looking for event reports if anyone feels they could write one (.…or more….The Ed!) please email it to Dawn Travers for inclusion in the magazine. If you have photos, so much the better!
Happy New Year to you all and the best of luck with your events in 2006.
Karen Webber
Speed League Co-Ordinator.
