Sevenoaks & District Motor Club Ltd has been at the forefront of club motor sport for many years. It has always made good use of the considerable talent which is our membership. If you look at your yearbook (last year’s will do) you’ll see in the trophy lists the many names who’ve driven us forward over the years and we owe them a lot for their efforts. One way not to repay them is to let this club slip from its position at the top and that is only too easy to let happen.

At the moment we need a new Social Secretary and Chief Marshal, and a variety of the senior officials who run our events. Those of us who are currently encumbered are, to some extent, jaded and need a change or a break. Running the same things for some time leads, inevitably, to staleness and in the current climate where numbers seem to be dropping in the previously more popular forms of our sport, enthusiasm is essential.

Now we still have a good membership with a variety of talents and skills and it is to you that I’m appealing (no, I know that I’m not very appealing!) to put yourselves forward for one or two jobs this year. There is nothing to daunt the newcomer to the organisation of motor sport, we have a solid foundation of knowledge, advice and help and you’ll find that most of us are fun to work with.

Please give any committee member a ring or an email to volunteer your services, it will be greatly appreciated and I’m sure you’ll find it very rewarding. I have or I wouldn’t be doing it 30 years after I clerked my first road rally.

Without your help (and I mean YOU) we’ll sink into obscurity as so many clubs have done before us.
