Editorial Ramblings

Happy New Year one and all! Hope you all had a good festive season and I bet many of you have already broken those resolutions, you know the ones about getting more exercise, eating less chocolate, giving up smoking etc...so how about some alternative resolutions that could be easier to keep? Chin has come up with some very good ideas for this year now that our Golden Jubilee is upon us. The celebrations start now and I personally think we as a club have a lot to celebrate. I hope you all agree and will go the extra mile to show your support during this special year.

I have been handed the club’s cuttings archive, which several members have been looking at over the last few months to enable the Club History to be put together in a more formal keepsake booklet. I have had but a short flick through so far and it makes fascinating reading. I am hoping to also resurrect some articles, reports and even jokes from the Acorn archive as a Jubilee Year special feature. Of course you the members are also extremely welcome to contribute with anecdotes or reminiscences of your own.

I have a reminder for you all that Andy Elcomb is collecting together those old-time photographs for the Jubilee club history and for a photo display at the Ball on May 22nd. A big thank you to those that have already responded...but we can always accommodate more. Get in touch with Andy if you are unsure as to what we require, although it is basically anything that will help build up a picture of the club events and the member’s activities over the decades. Photos can be sent by post or in electronic form, but please provide details of the events and subject, as well as labeling your photos so that they can be returned to you safely.

Our first big event of the 7oaks motorsport year is the Kent Rally, followed by the Rally of Kent and the speed championship opener at Lydden. Dates can be in Acorn this month so lease put them in your new Jubilee diaries and offer to help at one or all of these.

Ralph and I will be sector marshalling on the Kent and hope to have lots of people to say hello to on our way round the route.

It is also a time of year when car preparations are well underway for most of you, for the new season. Hope all is going well, and don’t forget that all important paperwork prep too. Sevenoaks Speed League Regs and Registration Form can be found within!

Finally as always, the Acorn would be a very thin magazine if people didn’t send me copy to fill the pages and I want to thank all the regular contributors who have put up with my nagging and sent me articles and those of you who send snippets and jokes. I am sure I have had more articles this last year (wonderful), so I have found trouble fitting in all the amusing titbits I get sent. Please don’t take offence, they make me laugh and I store them up for that rainy month when Acorn looks a bit sparse. Thanks.
