Editorial Ramblings

February is the month for those of you who fancy a bit of fun in the lanes on dark and frosty nights, so do your thing and help out on the Kent Rally. Come and do your bit for your club and get started on the 2006 awards points tables early. It is also the month to celebrate the achievements of 2005 at our Awards dinner on the 4th. There will be piccies (hopefully) and a full report next month.

Now some of the more observant of our membership, may have noticed that this isn’t an Acorn. Well done! This Oakleaf is a stop gap to enable me to get into a new routine. As I mentioned in December, the Acorn would no longer be printed “down on the farm” by Gordon Franks but we would be outsourcing to a new printer. My system has, as they say, “gone to cock!” and we will be looking at new deadlines from March issue onwards. The aim is to get the mag hitting your doorstep shortly after our committee meeting on the first Wednesday of the month.

It does mean however, that we will have to think ahead a bit more, and by we I mean all of you as well; all those wonderful people who will be sending me lots of reports, photos, Wanted and For Sale ads that fill the pages so well every month. So the deadline for March Acorn will be 13th February, yes that’s right 13TH FEBRUARY! It will be on or around this date from then on, but you will need to check that all important front page for exact dates. I will probably sprinkle the date around the magazine as well to keep you on your toes (Editorial Psychology—gets you reading all of it—or not !?)

Some of you may well have spotted the lovely blank page we gave you at the back of the January Acorn. This was not a mistake, but was to allow you to make notes of all the things you have to do this month, such as pick up the phone and volunteer to marshal on either the Kent Rally, The Rally of Kent or our next PCT. Perhaps you used this page to remind you to send back your membership renewal to Andy Elcomb. If you don’t renew soon, you will never have the pleasure of receiving the Acorn so early in the month! This will be your last magazine/newsletter for a while, so don’t let that happen.

Social Matters

The January video games night saw several interested parties pit their wits against each other on the various “playboxstation thingys” and a good time was had by all. February sees the battle of the teams at Karting and I am hopeful of a report and pictures next month. March is a Competitor’s Forum and will be held at our new venue The Chequers, just over a mile or so down the road from The Bell, so hope to see lots of you there. Perhaps you know someone who has expressed an interest in motorsport? Why not bring them along on March 22nd, there should be lots of experienced members on hand to answer questions on how to get started in motorsport.

If you have anything of interest for the magazine, remember new deadline for March!
