Scatter Rally - January 9th

The first Scatter Rally of 2002 kicked off from The Chaser, Shipbourne on a chilly, damp night.  Numbers were down on the recent turnouts but we still had 7 crews competing.  A major accident on the M25 was partly to blame and a few people could not attend because they were delayed by it.
The last time I ran a scatter it was cleaned by one crew so I made this one slightly harder by laying out the plots so that there was no easy route to be chosen. Pembury, Tonbridge, Staplehurst and West Malling bounded the area covered by the scatter.   Navigation was mostly simple with more than 50% of the clues being straight grid references and the rest easy, common methods.
Andy and Vivien Elcomb won the event with a score of 180. Vivien was also very thorough with the tie-break which was ‘how many words can you make from Sevenoaks Motor Club’.  I was however quite shocked to see that she had used a 4 letter slang word for the female genitalia, and its plural.  Speaking of which, Mark Dawson and Daren Hall came second!  Also in second place were Arron Elliot and Roger McKenzie from Borough 18 MC.  Amazingly neither of these crews had written down a single word for the tie-break.  I’m sure they will next time!  Fourth place was the very experienced (in terms of years anyway) Chin and Colin Billings.  The Travers were fifth.  Another Borough 18 crew, Maria McKenzie and Mark Hickman came sixth.  Last place was a baptism of fire for Sam Collins and Graham Baker.
