In the Hot Seat

Well January has now come and gone and with it our annual Dinner Dance & Awards night at Leeds Castle. The evening was well supported and everyone that I spoke to seemed to have had a thoroughly enjoyable night. Our guest speaker David Grace was excellent and entertained us with a few anecdotes from his Hillclimbing years and also, more recently, with the running of Rockingham Motor Speedway. Clearly he was less than impressed with his brushes with officialdom last year in his attempts to get out and do some circuit racing for a bit of fun!
I travelled up to the NEC in Birmingham with some friends during mid-January and paid my annual visit to Autosport International or the Racing Car Show as many of us fondly remember it! This event just seems to get bigger and bigger and I always seem to have a great deal of difficulty in seeing everything in the show in one day. The problem could stem from the fact that I kept bumping into people that I hadn’t seen for ages and by the time that you have stopped for a chat, that’s another fifteen minutes gone. I bumped into quite a few of our membership there too, so if you’ve never been, then I suggest that you put it in the diary for next January and go along for a look.
By the time that you read this, preparation for this year’s Kent Rally will be well underway. As always we need lots of help on the night in order to make this event run successfully. So if you haven’t volunteered already, then please contact Chris Scudder and give him your name.
Lastly, the club is rapidly approaching the 50th anniversary of its foundation in 1954 and your committee would appreciate comments and suggestions from the membership on how best to celebrate our Golden Jubilee.
