Editoral Ramblings

This month’s ramblings must start with a huge congratulations to Colin Rodger for a job well done with the Dinner & Dance.  Leeds Castle once again did us proud with a great setting, good food and excellent service.  And I am afraid to say that the Battured Cup returned to Redhill for another year.  The look on Ralph’s face was worth the ticket price alone, when Colin Billings also presented him with a gigantic wing mirror as an additional gift!  The pictures on the front and back covers are courtesy of Ian Crocker and his new digital camera, with a few more on the website, so check them out.
While on the subject of our website, the club’s new look  Fast Talk forum has been up and running since the New Year.  It takes a little more practice to use than the old one, but is turning out to be more fun, thanks to the little icons people are importing to personalise their writings.  Take a peek sometime.  If you haven’t joined up yet, it’s easy to do and free and the more members that join the more interesting the chats.  Of course for those who have yet to join the cyberspace evolution, then let us have your comments, libellous, scandalous or otherwise, for our new feature we are introducing this month called “Rumour Has It…”.  This will only work if I get input from you out there in the form of quips, one liners and rumours you have heard or read about else where.  One of our members has kicked off the series this month.  Why don’t you have a go next month?
Ian and Keith Crocker’s scatter on January 9th was
challenging and involved a fair amount of mileage to increase the difficulty in collecting a clean sheet.  Once again Ralph and I started well, with the navigation going down on the map steadily and the first set of clues being found.  Then our lack of local knowledge let us down again!  But it was a good night (she says through gritted teeth!) and thanks to Ian and Keith for their efforts.
Chris Judge has been regularly sending us regs for the PCTs and we have received notice of Borough 19’s PCT on 10th February at Meopham.  Probably will have happened by the time you get this issue, however I am hoping to persuade Ralph to get the Vectra a bit dirtier and as long as the venue is not underwater on the day, (although judging by the weather lately it is a strong possibility!) we are going to try to get there. I hope that some of you out there will have given it a go and will let me know how you got on in due course.
The Marketing Machine Speed Championship Regulations have been included this month with a loose registration form for you to complete and return to Gordon Franks.  You can also register online via the website.
The Kent Road Rally is imminent, the weekend of 16th/17th February is the date if you have somehow missed this information, and we need marshals.  More info from Chin in Rally Rattlings.
Of course since my last ramblings the 7Oaks social night in January took the form of Hales Vaughn and his now legendary “Name that Part” quiz.  Hales once more delved deep into his (and a number of his friends’) sheds, garages and other dark, dusty places to find varied and unusual objects to puzzle over and to deceive.  Chris Scudder and John Milligan tied for top honours and received delightful prizes generously given by Chin.  Colin Shipway and Alan Pearson were tied for 3rd place and shared their prizes, Colin going away with a tasteful keyring and Alan very happy with some furry dice to decorate the MGB with!  Thanks to Hales and all who turned out to join the fun.
I have had more copy than I have space this month so if you sent me something and it isn’t in this time, I’ll find space in March.

Keep up the good work!
