Re: Sam Collins' suggestion for Low Cost Series.

This is exactly the sort of input needed to keep our club at the forefront of club motorsport, especially from the younger membership ( where are me slippers ? ). Perhaps I can start stirring the soup here a bit.
Does the insurance bracket change at 1350cc ? If not, why not make the limit 1400cc as many cars are built to this limit ? If you wanted to keep the cost really low a MINIMUM age for the cars could be specified. Making  such a championship multi-discipline should , I feel, be its corner-stone. Let's face it, I have just as much fun whatever type of motorsport I am doing badly. Would it be better to allow points to be scored in any type of competition with competitors having to do a minimum number of different types ( say four ), or specify the range of events and minimum number of types to qualify ? Maybe bonus points could be given for each discipline attempted, to encourage variety.
The other thing, of course, is at what level should the championship be run: Club, Weald or association ? Weighting the scores depending upon the level of the event or the number of other competitors might encourage people into larger events as the extra points could offset the, presumably, increased costs.
  Technical Regulations:
Brake linings should be free of restrictions - who really enjoys brake fade?
Springs and dampers should also be free as they might be too difficult to regulate,  though they could be          non-adjustable, both for damping and ride height.
Wheels and tyres could be unrestricted so long as they do not exceed any width or diameter for that body type.     However even this may fall foul of  MSA 'production car' rules.
Internal trim must be retained, but may be modified to allow fitment of cages etc.
Everything else as suggested by Sam, except one. Cars should be driven to events and
hopefully away from them          too.
Oh, one other suggestion: ban flash hi-fis as money from this could be used for competing.
Must go now as 'The Archers' is just starting.

Dear Dawn

It is with sadness that I write to inform you that
Dorothy Reeves, a founder member of the SDMC (and my mother-in-law) died on 17th November last, eleven days before her eightieth birthday.  She died peacefully whilst travelling to London in the car with me.

This may be of interest to some of the long standing members of the club.

Yours sincerely
DAVID SEIGLE-MORRIS

OBITUARY
Dorothy Reeves

t is with sadness that I must report the demise of Mrs. Dorothy Reeves, wife of Johnny Reeves, both of whom were founder members of this club and very active in it's establishment at the outset. Without Dorothy and all who were active then where would we be today?
Dorothy served on our committee until 1961, as, amongst other duties, Acorn Editor and, latterly, as Social Secretary.
On searching my supply of early Acorns I discover that Dorothy came 12th overall on the Barbeque Rally in November 1958 driving a Borgward TS75 navigated by
David Seigle-Morris who was (or was to become) her son-in law.
The Acorns of the time show that Sevenoaks & District Motor Club was, by the late fifties, a thriving and successful club with teams in the Monte Carlo Rallye and entrants on other international events. Without the likes of Mrs. Reeves our sport would be poorer.
Out thoughts go to David and the rest of her family.
