TRK Twaddle

Lots of you seem to be having fun out there, which is just as it should be. The summer has arrived and even the second Autotest, which ran during a pretty wet week was dry; even if there was a little mud under the surface. The entries are rising which is interesting in view of the general trend at National B level. With the 12-cars being mostly oversubscribed last winter, PCTs continuing to get decent entries, Scatters holding their own and the Autotest series still popular we seem to be in a position where some thinking needs to be done to make life easier for people to make the jump from club events such as these to the Nat B events which are declining. The MSA is thinking along those lines but I’m not sure that they see things from our perspective; I guess it must be the same in all sports. Those of you out there who are Autotesting etc, but not taking it further let us know whether there is anything stopping you or if you’re content to stay at club level (and there’s nothing wrong with that in itself).

On to the real purpose of this column, which is to show you all how you’re getting on in our various championships and to encourage you to try even harder.

Firstly the Rose & Crown table (below) which shows that my theory that by entering events you’re off to a good start even if you don’t do particularly well in any; young Daren Hall is 61 points ahead of the old twit me, very closely followed by Chris Penfold – but there’s lots of the competition year left for all to change.

The Tyrrell-Flemming Non-Speed Trophy (table—top right) is more defined in the lead with the Gibson brothers leading by a country mile (I must start doing some rallies!)

I spent last weekend servicing for Colin Billings and Andy Kilby on the Rievers Rally, the Nat B part of the Jim Clark Rally, in the Scottish Borders. Great fun – up to the point when the gearbox gave up the struggle; no doubt mention of this appears in the Chairman’s chat. It’s hard work this servicing lark – hotel accommodation, decent meals, good company and two fifteen minute sessions checking fluids and pressures (might have been different if he’d had a spare gearbox!) with plenty of time to relax, read my book, chat to Martine Kilby and other friends I met up there – makes you wonder what the WRC people do to get so excited.

That’s it for now folks – keep those results coming in PLEASE.
