Editorial Ramblings
Blimey it’s hot! What else can I say! I am glad we have finally finished for the holidays at school. We should be off to camp soon with my daughter’s Guide company and I get to drive the minibus at last. It seems such a long time ago that I did the competence certificate, but at least I get to practice with a bus fully loaded with tents etc before I have live passengers! Worried? Not me!
North Weald is just around the corner and entries are coming in, haven’t had much of an update of numbers from Viv Elcomb but I hope it will be good numbers.
The other event we as a club are involved in, Cadwell Park is doing extremely well for entries, proving that if the venue is interesting and unusual enough then an entry of over £100 doesn’t deter too many people.
If you have decided against entering these two events and are registered for our Speed League, then perhaps you could offer your services as marshals or officials (you’ll get your marshalling qualification and bonus points too!) You could offer your services even if you are not a Speed League contender! Philip Fawcet is the man to speak to re North Weald (contact details on the front page of Acorn) and the Cadwell contact is Neil Benfield email: thebenfields@blueyonder.co.uk. The event Chief Marshal is John Watson but I don’t have a contact number for him.
August 12th to 20th has been declared National Motor Sport Week..…….“The objective of National Motorsport Week is to raise national and local media awareness of UK motorsport and its industry in order to attract new audiences and participants into the sport”.…..a quote from the website www.nationalmotorsportweek.co.uk. Check it out to find out more.
Apparently it is an initiative in which MSA affiliated clubs can raise the profile of their sport with various events and publicity in their local areas. In typical MSA style though, we as a club only found out about it at the end of June. Not really enough time to get anything organised and publicised! Our school fete needs a year’s worth of planning to make it successful so perhaps the MSA ought to take a leaf out our PTA’s book. ‘Nuff said!
