Summer Autotest Series 2006

Round 5

Thursday 6th July saw the fifth of the Evening Autotest series and despite a forecast of thunderstorms, the rain held off again.

This week we had a fairly small turn out with only 16 competitors and 5 marshals, who, hopefully, didn’t get too dusty this week! We had a couple of new faces and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

Class A was won by Chelmsford’s MATT ENDEAN. Unfortunately, his clubmate JIM BOWIE killed his car halfway through what was promising to be a good set of times.

DAREN HALL took FTD, whilst CHRIS PENFOLD took first place in Class B.

B19’s PETER DUNN won Class D with an impressive lead of 16 seconds over CRAIG MCGURK in second place who was only 0.9 of a second in front of Blackpalfrey’s LEE BUSBRIDGE in third. CHRIS WISE came first in Class E.

Five down, two to go with the last Thursday evening test on July 20th and the all day test is on Sunday July 30th.

Round 6

Thursday 20th July saw the sixth of the Evening Autotest series and once again the weather was gorgeous.

This week we had a disappointing turn out with only 13 competitors. We did originally have 15 but poor LEE BUSBRIDGE of Blackpalfrey and CRAIG MCGURK didn’t manage to compete as their Escort fell apart before they managed any tests! We were, however, blessed with 6 marshals. And we’re still seeing new faces joining in the fun.

DAREN HALL took FTD in his Nova. The Class A victor was KEVIN HASELDEN in his Mini.

The larger Class B (for a change!) was won by NICK MAXWELL with B19’S PETER DUNN 5 seconds behind in second place.

Once again, I’d like to thank everyone who turned up and especially the marshals who as always were very much appreciated.

This was the last Thursday evening test for the 2006 series, however the next and last test is the all-day test on Sunday July 30.

Following recent requests we have obtained a Production Car Autotest permit for Sunday 30th event. Basically, this means that persons of 14 and over may drive but MUST have an adult passenger with a RTL who is a member of a club. The car must be a 4 seater car under 1600cc. This is a good class to get the young ‘uns out and learning about car control.
