Editorial Ramblings

Although we all know Spring is here, weather wise it couldn’t be further away! As the clocks “spring” forward, the winter club sport season draws to a close, with the last scatter having taken place and seeming to have drawn a goodly number (for a scatter) of competitors out. This is always gratifying to the organisers, as we have said before in the pages of this magazine, there is nothing worse than putting a lot of effort into these events and only two people turn out on the night. So well done to Andy Elcomb and Chris Scudder for their hard work and congratulations to the competitors who took part. There is a report and results table on page 11. Above that are the results and a brief report of our 12 car that ran the Friday before the Rally of Kent. Well done to Chin and all the marshals who turned out to make it happen so close to a big event. It will not happen like that next year.

The last 12 car of this season has been brought forward a week from its original date and will take place on April 7th (hopefully this will be in time to let you know this)! Matt Fowle and Central Sussex MC are hosting this one for Weald MC members. The reason for the date move is that it originally fell on Good Friday, and having a pub as a finish venue on Good Friday was not an option. I believe it is still the only night of the year that pubs close for business. I remember when it was Christmas Day evening as well but not anymore. Although I do have to make use of the flexible opening laws for shopping occasionally and am grateful for it at times, I always feel guilty about doing my shopping on a Sunday or Bank Holiday, as I feel I am keeping people from their families. The “Keep Sunday Special” campaign has my support in spirit, even though bodily I am there, at Sainsbury’s picking up bits for the Sunday dinner I forgot to get on Saturday! (Off the soapbox now.)

Lots of rallying stuff this month, not surprising really with the Rally of Kent just finished and all the results safely out . Definitely liked the Barretts Ashford set up at Rally HQ. Generally a lot easier for Ralph to set up the IT stuff. I know it looks like we are sitting around relaxing in the photo on the left, but this was a shortish lull between stages when we found time to have a chat. (Honest, Guv!)

As we head towards the start of the speed season, with our North Weald imminent, entries are lowish but it should be a fun day for all those entered. I have heard reports that the B19 sprint on the new track layout was a success and the circuit was great to drive.

Here’s my usual plea to all you speed competitors out there, please drop us a line or two during the season to record your thoughts on events you have been to, especially the Speed Leaguers. It would be great to have a few lines from someone after every event.

Come on, make the effort to keep your fellow club members informed and amused. Do send a set of results for everything you do to Chin. He has resolved to keep the tables coming in to me for publishing, so you can all see how you are doing. Carrot and stick psychology at work!

I am off to do a minibus course now, so I can help take my daughter’s Guides to camp in the summer. I’ll let you know how I get on!
