Sevenoaks/Weald PCT March 13th 2005
A cold, but dry Sunday saw the first PCT run by Sevenoaks for some time, and no less than 32 drivers came out to play.
The Sevenoaks contingent of 15 battled against entries from Maidstone & Mid Kent, Borough 19, Blackpalfrey and the British Austin Society. The range of scores in the morning session was fairly small, but C of C John Kemp soon sorted that out with some cunning variations for the afternoon, shattering many an illusion in the process!
Nearly half the field, as is normal these days, were in Class A (FWD up to 1200) and were led home by Chris Scudder, with co entrant Daren Hall taking FTD with a score just half that of the second in Class Max Haycocks, making a welcome return along with son Joe.
The larger FWD’s in Class B gave David Balderson a good run for his money but he finally triumphed over Dennis Usmar of M & MK.
Class C, the RWD brigade consisted of Michael Vaughan in Hales’ Frogeye and Jon and Adrian Miles in son Adrian’s beautiful MK2 Escort which apparently wasn’t running at all well – seemed pretty good to me!
Class E was taken by the ridiculously small Fiat 126 (ridiculous when you see Gavin Lane alongside it!), but only just from David Rose in Steve Thompson’s MR2. Also in this Class was the Porsche 912 (yes nine one TWO) of Martin Kift and new member Martin Greenwood, which apart from a little damage to the rear skirt, survived the event and the somewhat rocky entrance/exit road very creditably.
Class F contained one double-entered Austin 7 Special, which did amazing things – glad it counts as a special!
Sadly only 30 finished, as the double-entered Hillman Imp decided to chew up it’s diff. and had to be towed home. The owner however has a ‘couple of spare gearboxes in the garage’ –as you do!
The event finished with the presenting of awards and a well earned round of applause for the chilly marshals.
The award winners were:-
FTD DAREN HALL
Class A 1st CHRIS SCUDDER
2nd MAX HAYCOCKS
3rd Marc Kemp
Class B 1st DAVID BALDERSON
Class C 1st JON MILES
Class E 1st Gavin Lane
