Editorial Ramblings

This last month or so since last Acorn have been very busy both for the club and personally.

Sevenoaks’ first PCT for a long time was a great success and you can read all about it in Clive Cooke’s piece elsewhere. Thanks to both Clive and Clerk of the Course, John Kemp, plus all the marshals and competitors for making the event successful and fun. Even the weather was kind.

With the run up to our North Weald sprint the number of entries are a bit low, but on the up side that should mean the competitors should get 3 times runs, weather permitting and when I last looked, the weather looks quite promising for the event. However this is North Weald after all and I will be packing for the usual inclement stuff that accompanies events in this part of the world!

The Rally of Kent went well and was well supported. Thanks to all the marshals on our stage and those that helped with the setting up. Ralph and I had a somewhat cushier number, being that the results were at the Ashford International hotel this time. However a major problem with the hotel’s phone system on the Saturday morning, meant that the hotel had no phones for us to use when we got there to set up. Hmmmm...interesting…….! The hotel did manage to sort out enough lines by late evening to enable us to get up and running and we were able to text all the crews with their Sunday morning start times. It was a bit late (or should I say early) by then so I hope they all had their phones turned off, or else they would have had a bit of a rude awakening at 1am!

After a lovely breakfast on Sunday morning we met up with the other half of the results team, Chin and Andy Coshan and got settled down to collecting in the times from the finish crews.

All went smoothly for the rest of the day, including regular top ups for the in-house tea and coffee (all very civilised I have to say), I could get used to this!

Onto Social matters...The March quiz night was a great laugh and our thanks go to John Milligan for his efforts in setting questions that got the grey matter going. It is a shame that more people didn’t join in but those teams that turned up had a good time.

The April social night is given over to the Annual General meeting of the club. This is a very important evening and we would like to have a good attendance by the membership.

May social is the bowling evening, back by popular demand and yours truly is organising. More details can be found in Acorn and you can ring or email me if you want to come and join us, by 5th May please.

With the speed season well underway one or two members have already made a bid for the Batturd Cup, however several have got their championship status off to a good start. Keep it up everyone and I look forward to hearing from some of you for Acorn.
