Editorial Ramblings:

The countdown to the start of the sprint season is over and the first event in the Sevenoaks Speed League will have happened by the time this Acorn hits your mats.

But the countdown to another big event in our Golden Jubilee year is still going...The Jubilee Ball at Leeds Castle on Saturday May 22nd. If you haven’t bought your ball tickets yet, then please, please get those entry forms into Karen Webber. The form is available from the website and Karen has a few spare copies if you need them so please give her a ring. It will be a good night of meeting up with old friends and making new ones so don’t miss out. Be a part of it.

Rally of Kent was an excellent event and although myself, Chin and Ralph were “holed” up in a cosy box all day, we had a good view of the disgusting weather that competitors and marshals had to endure. Well done to all who made the effort to turn out despite the wind and rain. A goodly number of 7oaks members were out and about so thanks to you all. Ralph had to go home and have a lie down in a darkened room once all the results were finalised. We were trying out a results texting service this year and it did mean quite a bit of extra work for Ralph. I do hope all who subscribed to it felt it was useful.

Social Surmising

The March social night was popular and a fair few new members came along to chat to the more longstanding ones. I understand that all our club disciplines were represented and most questions asked were answered or at least people pointed in the right direction to find those answers. Thanks to all who attended. May’s social will be a motorsport video night and if you have any interesting car vids, in-car stuff or historic events films then please bring them along and we will have a trip down memory lane, to coincide with the ball on the Saturday.

If any of you have an idea for a social night, be it an interclub event (Darts anyone? The Comp Sec has a new dart board apparently!) or an idea for a visit or a speaker, please let us know and we will help to get it going.

Golden Jubilee Summer Autotest Series

Inside this issue you will find the regs as promised and an entry form covering all the events in the series. Clive Cooke awaits your completed entry. Let’s make this another successful year.

We also want to hold a multi venue trial of some sort later in the year and have been discussing how this would work at committee. If there is anyone out there who would like to help out with organising this in any way then please get in touch with a committee member.

Annual Awards and Monthly Mugs

A couple of mentions for the annuals this time. A little bird told us that Neil Armstrong had a very interesting outing recently at Brands Hatch on the GP circuit. Neil took part in an endurance race and finished 15th overall and 2nd in class. He lost out on a class win by 30 seconds and had to do the last 10 laps with no brakes!

The Tour of Cornwall stages saw an event finish (or should that be eventful finish!) for Colin Billings and Andy Kilby. Apparently they had to drive 7 miles of one stage with the Golf’s bonnet up (as per Marco Martin!) as well as having to push start the Golf at almost every stage start after the starter motor gave out. I wonder if they had to flip a coin to see whose turn it was to turn the starter handle!?

There has been no monthly mug awarded for March. Hopefully there is enough activity in April what with Lydden, various rallying events and a PCT, so that the committee can present this highly prized monthly award. Come on don’t be shy, let us know how you get on.

Talking of PCTs the next B19 event will be on Sunday 25th April. That is where Ralph and I will be, after having (hopefully) completed B18’s last 12 car of this season.

Don’t forget the AGM on the 21st! See you there.
