8th March
Thanks one and all for coming out on this, our last for this season
of scatter rallies. I hoped you all enjoyed using a part of map 187 that
we seldom use, there certainly are some good lanes down there albeit slightly
busier than the equivalent lanes of Kent.
Sorry about the wrong plot on clue 3, I just didn’t see the correct
white on the map when I was working things out. I don’t think we’ve featured
on the local news as yet ……. Men seen waving torches outside elderly lady’s
house!
Apart from that I know every clue was there even if some were hard
to find …! It’s always easy as an organiser to tell people, ‘of course
it’s there, on top of the gate into the field’ but I know myself how they
can be b******s to find at night.
A pity we still can’t get more out on these events but perhaps a different
night and more importantly, a Weald scatter championship will improve things
when we return in October.

Scatter Chatter...How the Competitors saw it...
Ian Crocker..Well it was lucky Sam (Collins) didn't turn up or
he would have suffered the humiliation of losing to 'Old Flat Cap' and
the Grandad Civic! Of course, most of the credit goes to Daren (Hall)
who was on the maps.
It was a good event. I always dread the '187 map' because there
are so many roads with speed limits but Mark had some cracking roads.
Loads that were covered in mud and you never got out of 3rd gear.
There was the usual bonking couple in a car park. So near the
start that I expect all the entrants disturbed them! And then the
bad plot by Mark. The less said about that the better... Oh,
alright. It ended up right next to a house in the middle of nowhere and
I mean RIGHT next to it. I said to Daren "It can't be here" and he
said, "It must be, it’s a straight forward plot". The house was dark
and had security bars on the windows. While we were searching Frank
Collins pulled up too. As we drove off the lights had come on in
the house and a little old lady was peering out of an upstairs window.
I expect she thought she had a load of perverts in her driveway and the
Police were probably already on their way!
Andy Elcomb….Well she was right about the perverts! Yes,
good event and nice to be out in very unfamiliar territory.
Viv & I decided that we had to let some others take the spoils,
so we just pottered around in the 1300 Corolla taking in the scenery (visually
that is, not in through the front grill).
We did get too close to the scenery once though - right by the bonking
car too. Having not found Mark's white-tagged electric pole (did anyone
get that one?), I was three pointing and had backed towards some greenery
when the back of the car went down significantly. Yep, I'd dropped the
back wheels right off the road and the car was sitting on the sills.
But hey, took more than that to stop us. Viv offered to push (yeah,
right), but was better off applying pressure to the right pedal while yours
truly stood in the ditch and lifted the back of the car up - what a hero!!
3rd place was ok for us, but I really must put a map light in, it’s
getting boring just using torches.
