In the Hot Seat

First of all I would like to pass on my congratulations to the team responsible for the organisation of the excellent Rally of Kent. The event co-promoted by Bexley Light Car Club, Maidstone and Mid-Kent Car Club and ourselves proved to be a great success. We had a total of 62 competitors starting the event, although quite a few dropped out in the very early stages. One competitor reportedly missed out the two morning stages in Hemsted Forest and turned up early at the Bedgebury stage. I’ll bet there were a few words about poor navigation in that car, bearing in mind that there was a road book giving all the details!
I had a terrific day standing in Hemsted Forest helping to run the start control. We were thankfully blessed by fabulous weather and the only down side was when we said ‘Go’ at the start control every single car attempted to throw rocks in varying sizes at us! Despite slightly bruised ankles it was a fun day and it was nice to see a few Sevenoaks crews out there flying the flag too.
Most embarrassed person of the day had to be the driver of Car 0, who managed to roll his Peugeot at the finish of SS12. It looked rather the worse for wear at our start control at SS13 and there was rather a lot of ribbing going on from the various marshals and support crews in attendance!
April sees the start of the Marketing Machine Speed League with two rounds scheduled at Lydden Hill and Wiscombe Park. Elsewhere April is a rather quiet month, but don’t forget that our Summer Autotest series gets underway again in May, with free entries to those single or family members under 21 years of age.
Finally, I would like to pass on the sincere thanks of the committee to Denise and Trevor Jones who are standing down after three years hard work as our Membership Secretary.
