1. When did you join 7 Oaks?…1968 2. What or who inspired you to get into motor sport?…Valence Hill Climb….. 3. What was your first competition car and why did you choose it?…. Morris Minor Ser II--it chose me! 4. Brief history to present day….. I started out with no ambition to drive (sensible if you've seen my driving) but intended to navigate for Phil Holliday on rallies and mechanic for him at races. Persuaded to do 'demonstration driving tests' (=autotests) at Valence fete--made complete idiot of myself but got hooked! Navigated, Autocrossed, sprinted, etc for a few of years then teamed up with Basil Elkington and got stuck into some serious rallying (motoring News etc.) then, in 1979 discovered sex which, together with Country Dancing, took over my life for ten years. Then sex ran out and I got back to motor sport but found I got horribly sick navigating, so I took up driving and here we are today. I've also served on the ASEMC executive over 25 years and the MSA Rallies Committee for the last five years (sad git you may say!) 5. Most extravagant bit of kit for your comp.car?….. Group A head for the Manta. 6. Did it work!…...Not Really(but it's still on and running!) 7. Favourite venue/track/hillclimb and why?…. West Cork Rally in Ireland or maybe the Kent when it ran in Wales. Closed roads in Ireland are real fun and the event organisaton was superb. The Kent was magic--navigating for Sue Weallans in my Mini Cooper and finishing 25th! 8. Worst venue/track/hillclimb and why?….. Dolphin Rally--each year it disappoints! 9. Worst/Most expensive accident….Must be Valence when I rolled the first Manta, or maybe … no there are too many to list! 10. Best/Favourite motorsport car ever……Lola T70 Mk3B--Or Opel Manta 400 11. Best/Favourite racing/rally driver ever….. Basil Elkington, or maybe Andy Elcomb--the famous people I don't know (the few grand prix drivers I've met are mean selfish b….s and I guess you have to be that way to succeed) Mind you, Vic Elford is a great role model, Grand Prix for Cooper, Sports Racing and a works Porsche rally driver--wow!
